FRIENDS

Reid was having a bit of a bad hair day when this was shot.

Reid's best photo

Here's Reid again on a slightly better day. Reid's boyfriend Richard is on the right. I'm on the left. This photo was shot at the Red Rock Cafe, Salt Lake City in 1996.

Here I am, sitting in a Paris cafe in August of 1996, with my dear friend Martin, drinking the world's perfect beer, Pelforth Brune. It's brewed in northern France. It's dark, creamy and smooth. It's as common in Paris bars as Budweiser is in American bars. Of course, Bud sucks and Pelforth doesn't. You can't get it in America. Yes, I'm bitter about it.

On January 25, 1997 I had the pleasure and honor to meet Actor/Author Quentin Crisp. We had lunch together, and he was delightful company.

He lived his entire life out of the closet. I find that admirable and amazing. If you asked him about anyone famous he'd probably met them and had a story to tell. Here are a few.

"I think life should be in black and white. When I met Miss Garbo I was quite surprised to discover she was in color.

"I quite like Mr. Leno. He gave me champagne and peanuts."

"I always say if you can learn to survive on champagne and peanuts, you need never go hungry again."

"I didn't like Mr. Letterman. He's very difficult to work with. Miss MacLaine called him an asshole."

"Love is a four-letter word."

This photo was taken in New York City's East Village on Second Avenue at Fifth Street. That's just outside "Cooper Square" which, despite being rather a dive, was Mr. Crisp's favorite restaurant, "because they don't play music. Music is the most noise conveying the least information."
